BRUCE FYFE AND ST LEGER & VINEY IN THE DESIGNER SPOTLIGHT AT DECOREX DURBAN
Leading interior designer, Bruce Fyfe, is invited to design and curate the annual Decorex Designer Spotlight at Decorex Durban in March this year.
Decorex Durban takes place over the Human Rights Day weekend from 20 to 23 March, at the Durban Exhibition Centre and Bruce Fyfe’s collaboration with fabric house St Leger and Viney is certain to be one of the highlights of the exhibition.
“I’m really looking forward to being part of Decorex Durban again; our presence in previous years has always brought us more business,” he said.
Speaking about the inspiration for his installation at Decorex Durban, Bruce said he would be creating a plantation-style verandah with white columns and flooring “We’re going to create a typical American deep south-style porch.”
“We have found a beautiful contemporary swing seat and we will have sheer curtains moving in a breeze created by fans plus plenty of greenery to complete the plantation feel,” he said.
Bruce said that while he believes the stand décor will be something unexpected, it is also perfectly suited to the Durban lifestyle.
“We are all changing the way we decorate our verandahs – our outdoor entertainment area is now regarded as an extension of the home and that means we can decorate it like the rest of our home.”
The colour palette for Bruce’s stand is shades of citrus orange and light grey and he said he was looking forward to working with the team from St Leger and Viney.
Marc Shotland, Marketing Manager of St Leger & Viney, said the most prominent fabric trends are towards bold and bright colours “There are vast selections of beautifully designed fabrics with gorgeous bright colours.” These are coming through in outdoor collections now so one should take advantage of the colour ways that are on offer.”
St Leger & Viney stocks various fabric lines that specialise in outdoor fabrics Schumacher, Christopher Farr, Ralph Lauren, Kravet and their own, eponymous, fabric brand.
Marc said the St Leger &Viney team had picked up on a new mood in outdoor décor and they were enjoying working with their clients to create their dream outdoor spaces.
“To create a seamless flow, I would suggest your outdoor areas have a representation of your home inside. We are fortunate in South Africa to have an amazing climate that allows us to spend time outdoors. For this reason people are spending more time outside, indoor furniture is moving onto covered patios, televisions are going onto exterior walls and bespoke fabrics are being produced with UV specifications.”
Marc shared a valuable piece of advice rule for achieving effective results when it came to outdoor space décor: “Take a colour from your natural surroundings and use it in your fabric selections for your outdoor patio. By doing this, a synergy is created between your home and nature. A bright blue to match your swimming pool or a bold emerald green mixed with neutrals looks gorgeous and creates a consistent flow.”
Sian Steyn, Decorex SA General Manager, said she is delighted to have two leading décor names such as Bruce Fyfe and St Leger & Viney collaborating at Decorex Durban 2014.
“Our visitors come to Decorex looking for ideas and inspiration and I know Bruce and the team from St Leger are going to deliver beyond our expectations”
